Author Interview: Jeanette T. Queen

Hello, everyone! Welcome back to Friday Night Writes! As always, our goal is to shine a spotlight on members of the book community and introduce readers to awesome authors, narrators, event hosts, influencers, and more.

This week, we'd like to introduce our featured guest, author Jeanette T. Queen!

Jeanette T. Queen
Jeanette T. Queen

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who are you?

I am a fantasy writer who is addicted to books. I am a mom of two, and four fur babies. When I’m not writing, my day job is a professional hypnotist and spiritual guide. I am also a huge Indie book supporter, and I co-host a twice weekly show on TT and sometimes IG where we interview everyone and anyone from the bookish community.

What are a few of your favorite things/least favorite things?

I love reading and Tacos, I hate marketing and driving at night.

Did you always want to be an author?

Nope, it wasn’t even on my radar until a few years ago.

If not, what did you want to be when you were a child?

I was a theater kid who dreamed of Broadway or Hollywood.

Besides writing, do you have any hobbies? Do any of your characters share the same

interests as you?

I collect star wars everything, and I read tarot.

Do you have anything that you’re truly passionate about outside of writing? (Could be a cause, a project, etc.)

I am a food allergy parent, so I am advocate for food allergy legislation and education.

How long have you been writing?

I started my first book over 20 years ago, but only got about 3 chapters done and decided I want a writer. I then picked it back up in 2021 during the pandemic. So about 4 ½ years.

Which genres do you write in?

Fantasy or Romantasy

Are you independently published or traditionally published? Why did you choose this route?

Indie, because I was told my book did not fit in the mold for traditional publishing, and I wanted to write what I wanted to write.

What are the benefits/drawbacks?

Benefits are having complete control over my books. Drawbacks are having to wear all the hats that go along with getting a book published.

What do you enjoy most and least about being an author?

I love meeting the readers and hearing if they are team Shane or Team Ryker. I hate Marketing.

Are you a plotter, a plantser, or a pantser?

100% Pantser all the way. I never know what’s going to happen until it appears on the page.

Do you have any writing routines (things you do that help you write)?

Coffee, coffee and more coffee. I also try to get in a few hours a day while my kids are in school.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

I ignore it. I will go work on something else, or go read something that is not fantasy.

How many WIPs do you have going right now? Can you tell us anything about them?

6 currently. Book 3 of my series, a fantasy mafia stand alone, a witchy rom-com, a Christmas novella, and 2 contemporary romcoms that will probably not stay contemporary.

How many books do you currently have published? Tell us about them.

Two currently.

Book 1 in my series The Last Pendragon and Book 2 Rise of the Pendragon. It’s my modern take on the Arthurian legend. Where a woman is wielding Excalibur and tasked with saving the realms. It’s been called the kitchen sink fantasy because I put everything but the kitchen sink in it.

Where do you get the inspiration for your books? Do you insert pieces of yourself and people you know into your books?

I have no clue where the inspiration comes from, it just pops in my head and the characters start yapping. I have not put actual people I know in my books yet. I do use family names to honor people. Elizabeth was my grandmother’s name, Lorraine and Dianna are both Aunts. However, Elizabeth does have a lot of me in her, including her coffee addiction.

Are there any other authors who have inspired you?

Not really inspired, per se, but I have had a lot of help and advice from other authors on this journey. Authors who have been encouraging and supportive. There are too many to name. I have been truly blessed with support from the author community.

Do you prefer standalone books or book series?

I love them both.

Do you have a favorite and least favorite of your characters? Why?

No, not yet at least. Ask me when the series is completed.

What is your most popular book?

Book 1 because it’s been out the longest.

Which of your books do you wish received more love than it does?

The Last Pendragon, because it’s the start of the journey. I’m still a newbie and still finding my readers.

How do you handle the author/life balance? (i.e. writing/editing/graphic design/home life/etc.)

I treat it like a job. I’m lucky that I work from home. So, on days when I don’t have clients, I’m writing or doing author related stuff. All before my kids get home from school, Once there home, I don’t get as much done.

What do you do for your mental health and to recharge your creativity?

I read

Do you have any advice for unpublished writers or people who hope to become authors?

The great TS Tappin once told me, you can’t edit a blank page. So just write it and take it from there.

What was your most recent five-star read?

I’m in the middle of TS Tappin Howler series and loving it. I was also recently obsessed with Brooklynn Cross’s King of Wayward academy, and anything from TL Hodel and of course TD Edwards shifters series. All 5 starts.

What’s your favorite Dinosaur?

T-Rex of course.

What is the best gift you have been given?

No clue lol

How many pairs of shoes do you own?

This is a loaded question, because I am a recovering shoe addict. At one point before kids I had over 200 pairs. Now after kids I only have 11 pairs.

What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?

I once auditioned for a reality show in the 2000’s called Puff Daddies making the band.

Are you a clean or messy person?

I’m a hot mess, thankfully I married a clean freak.

Do you collect anything besides books?

Star Wars stuff

Do you believe in aliens? Ghosts?

Yes

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?

Mint Chocolate Chip

being used?

Not sure

What would you use to survive the zombie apocalypse? Why?

Where can we find you online?

Do you have any planned events?

I am keeping 2026 light at the moment because I have several big ones in 2027.
